    Charging:

Always use the USB-C charging cable provided by Calibre and a standard 5V-2Amp max (non-accelerated) charging block, plugging it directly into a wall socket.*

It is important to initially fully charge the device prior to first use. The LED light will oscillate while charging and turn solid white when fully charged. See more on light sequencing below.

When charged fully, remove the cable and insert the protective silicone plug provided to prevent any moisture from entering the device.

Avoid using third-party cables or charging through laptops and external devices, as these could lead to damage or battery degradation.

Flashing Yellow:  The device is fully powered off. Must allow a 30 minute charge before next session to properly warm up the O2 sensor.

    Battery Optimization:

Maximize your Calibre device's battery life by using the appropriate power mode depending on your usage habits

    Sleep Mode
    (More than once a day)

Use this mode when the device will be inactive for short periods (e.g., between sessions or throughout the day).

    How to activate Sleep Mode:
    • Press and hold the module button for 3 seconds
    • Release when the light gradually fades out

    Key Details:
    • Sensors stay in a low-power “ready” state
    • To wake: press the button once — the light will begin to blink, indicating readiness for pairing

    Shut Down Mode
    (Once a day or less)

Ideal for overnight or long-term storage (e.g., more than a day without use).

How to Shut Down the device:
    • Press and hold the module button continuously for 10 seconds
    •  Yellow light will blink two times quickly – now powered off

    Key Details:
    • Device is fully powered off (no battery drain)
    • Cannot be reactivated via the button — must be plugged in with the provided charger and a standard wall adapter
    • Always allow a 30 minute charge before next session. Skipping this step may lead to inaccurate data.

     Button Sensitivity Note

The module button is designed without a mechanical “click” to preserve fit and seal.
Tip: Center your finger and press firmly — you’ll quickly get used to the feel.

     Battery Life Expectations

Sleep Mode: up to 36 hours

    Shut Down: No battery drain

    Baseline and Calibration:

To ensure precise and reliable readings, every session with Calibre should begin with two key steps: warming up the sensors (baseline) and calibrating the device.

     Baseline: Warming the Sensors

Before starting any protocol, especially your first session or a longer test, it’s important to warm the sensors by performing a baseline procedure. Follow the steps below:

    1. Begin by pressing and holding the module button for about 10 seconds. You’ll know it’s working when the yellow light flashes twice — this signals the start of the baseline process.

    2. Let the device rest for one minute.

    3.  Even if the battery is already full, the next step is critical: place the device on the charger for a full 30 minutes. This isn’t just about battery level — it gives the oxygen sensor time to reach operating temperature, which is essential for accuracy. Skipping this step may lead to inaccurate data.

    Calibration: Preparing for Accurate Measurements

Calibre is uniquely designed to calibrate using ambient room air, meaning there’s no need for specialty gases or equipment. To begin calibration, simply set the module on a stable surface in the same environment where you'll be testing. It doesn’t matter whether it’s inside the mask or on its own — what matters is that it remains untouched and free from airflow.

You should avoid breathing in the device for approximately 30 minutes before calibration. This allows the surrounding air to properly diffuse into the internal sensing chamber. Be sure the environment is free of drafts or direct fans to maintain stable conditions.

Once you’re ready to calibrate, open the app and connect your Calibre device. You’ll be prompted to calibrate — just follow the instructions. During calibration, a side-to-side yellow light will appear for about 10 seconds. When it stops, your device is fully calibrated and ready for accurate use.

    Fit:

To ensure proper operation and comfort, position the face piece so it covers your mouth and rests gently just beneath your nostrils (without inserting your entire nose into the hole underneath).

It is very important to understand that Calibre is designed to sit softly against the face. Unlike most measuring devices that rely on a tight seal, Calibre should be held in place by the straps – gently,, but snug enough that it doesn’t fall away from the face. Avoid compressing the face piece too much, as it needs a sufficient interior volume to operate accurately.

    Care/Cleaning:

Do not wash, rinse, or submerge the module, as this could damage the internal electronic components and void the warranty. However, the facepiece and other non-electronic parts are waterproof and washable.

You may clean the facepiece as often as needed, as long as the module is removed. Soap and detergent are safe to use—just be sure to rinse thoroughly and let it dry completely before reattaching the module.

To prevent water damage and ensure proper functioning, always insert one of the provided silicone plugs into the USB-C port before using your Calibre device. This plug acts as a barrier to safeguard the internal electronics from moisture.

Wipe any excess moisture from the outside of the module before charging, and ensure the module is dry before connecting it to a power source.

    Protocols:

The team at Calibre has worked with experts in the field to create, test and validate protocols that create accurate data with our device. Due to the nature of how Calibre collects data it is strongly recommended all users follow the protocols exactly as described as they may vary from other recognized protocols.

    See Protocol Page

    Exporting Your Data:

Export your session as CSV files through your personal web-based portal:
    1.  Go to the web portal at https://portal.calibrebio.com
    2. Log in with your Calibre app credentials.
    3. Select the download button next to the session or open the session and select “Download CSV”.

    Best Practice Consideration:

    Environment

Calibre is engineered for optimal performance in indoor or controlled environments. Outdoor setting introduce factors that are more challenging to control and tend to interfere with the data being collected.

Do not use Calibre with any strong airflow blowing at the device, such as a from fan or outdoor wind. Calibre measures the difference in pressure from the inside of the face pieceto the outside via the perforations in the hard plastic, hence other airflow directed at the device can disrupt accuracy while using the device.

We recommend using your Calibre device in environments between 50°F (10°C) and 122°F (50°C) to ensure optimal performance. Temperatures outside this range may affect sensor accuracy and data reliability. Additionally, avoid using Calibre near pools or water sources to prevent moisture-related issues.

    Session duration

    Minimum Durations:
Due to data averaging requirements, the device needs a minimum session time of 5 minutes to provide the most accurate results.

    Maximum Durations:
While longer session durations are generally well within the capabilities of Calibre, we've seen numerous cases – primarily associated with high-intensity exercise – where sensor readings become increasingly saturated after about 25 minutes. This is due to excessive water buildup (from breath condensation and perspiration) entering the sensing module.

Continued use under these conditions is not recommended. We are working to extend these limitations address this problem, but in the meantime, to ensure accurate readings and maintain device performance, follow these guidelines:
    • Moderate intensity (≤ 60 L/min breath volume, up to 10 METs): Up to 90 minutes without issues.
    • High intensity (> 60 L/min breath volume): Maximum 25 minutes, including warm-up, cool-down, and all activity.
    • Back-to-back sessions should be treated the same as a single extended session. To prevent sensor interference from moisture buildup, we recommend waiting at least 1 hour between sessions.

    Replacement parts & service

There are no consumable or replacement parts needed for Calibre and there is no regular maintenance or servicing required, although we highly recommend you update the firmware anytime we issue one for optimal capabilities. (we issue new firmware updates at no cost and they are available through our app)

    Connection range

Sometimes we hear the question - does Calibre continue to measure and save data if there is a lost bluetooth connection or if “out of range” with the phone? As of today the device needs to stay within 10 feet of the paired phone to maintain an its bluetooth connection. We are working on continuous data recording when out of range and will be certain to make that announcement when available.

    Module Removal

When connecting the module to the face piece, push until you hear it “click in to place”. Removing the module may seem difficult the first few times as there is a “break in” period, but  it will become easier to remove overtime.
